Residents of Delhi’s Nangloi Locality Left Frustrated as Tap Water Turns “Sewage-Like”

Delhi residents woke up to a bleak reality on Wednesday morning as many households in the Nangloi locality were met with a shocking sight: sewage-like water flowing from their taps. The discolored and foul-smelling water has left families frustrated, concerned about the safety of their drinking water, and demanding answers from the authorities.

According to reports, multiple homes in the Nangloi area received complaints of dirty water coming out of their taps, with some residents describing it as “sewage-like” and “unpalatable”. The water was found to be dark brown or greenish in color, with an overpowering stench that made many people hesitant to even touch it.

“I opened the tap to fetch water for my family’s morning routine, but what came out was like sewage,” said Ramesh Kumar, a 45-year-old resident of Nangloi. “We’re worried about our health and safety. How can we trust the water coming from our taps?”

The issue seems to be centered around the overloaded Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in the area, which is reportedly struggling to cope with the increasing load of waste water. The plant’s capacity has been exceeded due to an increase in construction activity and new residential developments in the region.

“We’re doing our best to address the issue, but it’s a complex problem that requires immediate attention,” said an official from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), the state-run water supply authority responsible for providing clean drinking water to residents. “We understand the concerns of the people and are working round-the-clock to increase the capacity of the STP and ensure that the water is treated properly before it’s supplied to households.”

However, many residents feel that more needs to be done to address the issue quickly. They point out that the problem has been ongoing for weeks, with no visible signs of improvement.

“We’re fed up with the DJB’s promises and excuses,” said Pooja Sharma, a 32-year-old resident of Nangloi. “We need action, not just empty words. Our children should be able to drink clean water without worrying about getting sick.”

The situation has sparked outrage on social media, with many using hashtags like #DirtyWater and #NangloiSewage to express their concerns. The Delhi government has been under pressure to address the issue, with some opposition parties calling for an immediate probe into the matter.

As the residents of Nangloi continue to struggle with the dirty water, they are demanding answers from the authorities. Will the government be able to resolve the issue quickly enough? Only time will tell.
